Ruby anyolite, also called ruby in zoisite, has beautiful jade and violet hues. Made of red corundum mixed with jade green zoisite, this lovely stone is mined in Norway, Alaska, Kenya and Tanzania. Discovered relatively recently in Austria in 1805, the opaque version of the stone seen here is often used for carving. Tourmaline is a coveted stone that comes in a wide range of colors from black to pink, green and blue. Crystals which display more than one color together are common. A cross-section of a watermelon tourmaline crystal reveals green on the outside and pink within.
